On persistence

Fall over seven times and get up eight times.- an old Chinese proverb

People fail quite simply because they give up and stop trying- mostly just after their first setback.

The average child falls over 240 times before it learns to walk, and each time he falls, he gets back on his feet, till he learns to walk.

Failure is our teacher on the road to success.

They who lack talent expect things to happen without effort. They ascribe failure to a lack of inspiration or ability, or to misfortune, rather than to insufficient application. At the core of every true talent there is the awareness of the difficulties inherent in any achievement, and the confidence that with persistence and patience, something worthwhile will be realised.- Eric Hoffers

Persistence demands that we break the negative habits of a lifetime: habits that we have held on to and that have made us who we are.If you suffer the frustrations of a life you neither hoped or actively chose, it is essential to break those habits.

People of mediocre ability sometimes achieve outstanding success because they don’t know when to quit. Most men succeed because they are determined to. -George Herbert Allen

When our belief in failure is greater than our belief in success, we quit.

Happiness and success are not accidents of birth nor are they just lucky occurences. They are the results of committing to and following through on the things you need to do.

Fight one more round. When your feet are so tired that you have to shuffle back to the center of the ring, fight one more round. When your arms are so tired that you can hardly lift your hands to come on guard, fight one more round. When your nose is bleeding and your eyes are black and you are so tired that you wish your opponent would crack you on the jaw and put you to sleep, fight one more round- remembering that the man who always fights one more round is never whipped.- James J. Corbett.

The lesson in adversity has been to persist. Defeat is never final until you accept it. Do the thing you love and persistence will be as natural as breathing. You will persist without realising it, for love is never a chore.

Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before.

You only fail in life when you quit, and you choose the moment at which you quit.

If you wish success in life, make perseverance your bosom friend, experience your wise counsellor, caution your elder brother and hope your guardian.-Joseph Addison

Never give up, just persist and learn from your mistakes. People don’t fail because they are unlucky, they fail because they quit. Defeat is never final, until you accept it.
