Focus on the essential

In almost everything that we do in life, there are a few essential things that is necessary for success.

For example, if we want to lose weight, the two things that are important are to

  • Eat less
  • Exercise more

The other things are minor details which are not essential.

If you think about it, this applies to almost anything– buying a house, investing, marriage, bringing up kids, learning about a subject, etc. Name it and if you think about it, the essential aspects are not more than 5, usually less than that.

Whenever you want to do something, think of the essential things. Not the minutiae. Not the details. Not information overload. Just the essential. The things without which we definitely cannot succeed.

So when you want to do something,

  1. Think of the essential things(the things which if you don’t do, you will not succeed)
  2. This has to be less than 5 things, preferably, 2 or 3.
  3. Then take steps, no matter how small, to do these things.
