Stories 6: You are still carrying her

There is a Buddhist story about two monks who were walking from one village to another and they had to ford a river. There was a young woman standing on the bank of the river who wanted to cross to the other side. One monk offered to take her to the other side by letting her ride on his back as he waded across. he put her down on the other side and the two monks continued on their journey. The other monk began burning up inside slowly, become increasingly incensed, as Buddhist monks were not to touch women. After a couple of hours of silence he said to his companion, ” How could you have let that woman touch you?” To which the other monk responded, ” I left her back by the river. You are still carrying her.”
