Present Moment Reminders

Somebody, I don’t recall who, once said: “When you get there, there’s no there there”. This applies not only to location in space, but also to time: when you get to the future, you find yourself in the present moment. So the future never comes. Don’t let the thought of future (or past) obscure the preciousness of the present moment.

To experience anything fully and see it clearly there must be a moment of presence where conceptual thinking is not interfering with your experience of that moment.

When you feel confused or burdened by problems focus on THIS INSTANT and ask yourself: WHAT PROBLEM DO I HAVE RIGHT NOW? You will find that there is no problem NOW. A challenge that requires action, possibly, but not a problem.

A great deal of what people say, think, or do is actually motivated by fear, which of course is always linked with having your focus on the future and being out of touch with the Now. As there are no problems in the Now, there is no fear either.

When you create a problem, you create pain. All it takes is a simple choice, a simple decision: No matter what happens, I will create no more pain for myself. I will create no more problems.

When you are present in this moment, you break the continuity of your story, of past and future. Then true intelligence arises, and also love.

How to be at peace now? By making peace with the present moment. The present moment is the field on which the game of life happens. It cannot happen anywhere else.

Your inner purpose is to awaken. It is as simple as that. You share that purpose with every other person on the planet – because it is the purpose of humanity.

Look at a tree, a flower, a plant. Let your awareness rest upon it, How still they are, how deeply rooted in Being. Allow nature to teach you stillness.

Accept the present moment and find the perfection that is deeper than any form and untouched by time.

Give up waiting as a state of mind. When you catch yourself slipping into waiting…snap out of it. Come into the present moment. Just be and enjoy being.

Realize deeply that the present moment is all that you ever have. Make the Now the primary focus of your life.

You are not separate from the whole. You are one with the sun, the earth, the air. You don’t have a life. You are life.

To offer no resistance to life is to be in a state of grace, ease and lightness. This state is then no longer dependent upon things being in a certain way, good or bad.

All you really need to do is accept this moment fully. “You are then at ease in the here and now and at ease with yourself.

When you say “yes” to the “isness” of life, when you accept this moment as it is, you can feel a sense of spaciousness within you that is deeply peaceful.

Seek out a tree and let it teach you stillness.

Accept the present moment and find the perfection that is deeper than any form and untouched by time.

Do I want the present moment to be my friend or my enemy? The present moment is inseparable from life, so you are really deciding what kind of relationship you want to have with life.

The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it.

Surrender is the simple but profound wisdom of yielding to rather than opposing the flow of life.

The basis for true change is freedom from negativity. And that’s what acceptance implies: no negativity about what is. And then you see what this moment requires: what is it that is required now so that life can express itself more fully?

You do not become good by trying to be good, but by finding the goodness that is already within you, and allowing that goodness to emerge.

Give up defining yourself – to yourself or to others. You won’t die. You will come to life.

How do you let go of attachments to things? Don’t even try. It’s impossible. Attachment to things drops away by itself when you no longer seek to find yourself in them.

The ultimate truth of who you are is not I am this or I am that, but I am.

The more shared past there is in a relationship, the more present you need to be; otherwise, you will be forced to relive the past again and again.

Joy does not come from what you do, it flows into what you do and thus into this world from deep within you.

When you make the present moment, instead of past and future, the focal point of your life, your ability to enjoy what you do and with it the quality of your life increases dramatically.

Be aware of your breathing. Notice how this takes attention away from your thinking and creates space.

Sometimes surrender means giving up trying to understand and becoming comfortable with not knowing.

In any relationship, especially marriage, be as free of compulsive thinking as possible. In other words, the more space there is in the relationship – inner space – the more love there is because love arises out of the inner spaciousness.

You are the sky. The clouds are what happens, what comes and goes.

Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness. How do you know this is the experience you need? Because this is the experience you are having at this moment.

Acknowledging the good that is already in your life is the foundation for all abundance.

The joy of being is the joy of being conscious.

You all know the saying which is very true: What you resist persists. And I’m sure many of you have already found that out in your life. And then suddenly when you let go of resistance you let go of an attachment to something: I need this to happen in order to be happy; I don’t want what is, I want something else. To be okay with what is, which is the simplicity of this moment, is the beginning of true change.

Underlying the sense – perceived universe there is the un-manifested life: the eternal one consciousness out of which every life form emerges. And you are that.

Go within. Use the inner body as a starting point for going deeper and taking your attention away from where it’s usually lodged, in the thinking mind.

Whatever state of consciousness you are in has an effect on the totality of consciousness-human consciousness, planetary consciousness. You cannot not affect others by your state of consciousness.

When the mind loses its density, you become translucent, like the flower. Spirit – the formless – shines through you into the world.

One of the dysfunctional patterns of the mind is the assumption that the Now needs to be filled with something all the time. Of course you have to do things, but see if you can also experience the spaciousness of this moment, the inherent goodness of this moment, regardless of what it contains.

You are not IN the universe, you ARE the universe, an intrinsic part of it. Ultimately you are not a person, but a focal point where the universe is becoming conscious of itself. What an amazing miracle.

With awareness there comes choice. And so you are able to say: “I allow this moment to be as it is”. And then, suddenly, where before there was irritation, there is now a sense of aliveness and peace. And out of that comes right action.
