What is wealth?

Does it mean accumulation of money, property, gold and other things of material value? Or does it mean more than that…good health, character, relationships, awareness, mindfulness, knowledge, wisdom….Here I am defining wealth as anything of value that helps us to evolve as better human beings and even better, to realise ourselves as spiritual beings. This does not mean that I don’t consider material wealth as of any value…but just that it is a force and power like everything else…and can be used to help us evolve or help us degrade…it is the same with all other things of value I have mentioned earlier-like health, relationships, knowledge, etc..

What is Tao?

Tao in its absolute spiritual sense means the primordial essence of the universe. We shall talk about this here as well, but the word Tao in the title means the essence, principles. This is difficult to define but I hope what you find here will reflect what cannot be simply expressed.

Let us begin…one step at a time.

This is not an original strategy. CXO advisory has a strategy which uses 5 months and they said that was an optimal interval. I wanted to track the same strategy using my own numbers; that’s all.
I don’t think it matters that much as long as you use an interval less than or equal to a year.

stumbled into your blog and found it very interesting. Nice work Venkat.
I see that you are tracking the ETF momentum strategy since the beginning of 2013. Can you post the performance of the strategy YTD?

On the Momentum ETF strategy, what symbol is being used for “cash”?
There is “BIL” which is a short term treasury, but it’s not principal protected. You’d think cash meant safety, no?

Also, if all are tanking and below the “cash” performance rank, are they still being bought at month end?
For instance if the next best fund to cash is down -15% during the current 5 month look back, is that still a buy?

  6. jackie says:

Also….do you know what the worst case equity peak to trough drawdown was?
And how long was the drawdown period from peak back to break even?
Per the equity chart at the site it’s hard to tell.

  7. jackie says:

I did that before asking you. Kind of hard to tell on that equity chart. Looks like it could be $225k down from $275k which would be -18% max. And time frame maybe May 2008 to May 2009.
But hard to say if that chart is daily or monthly.

If during the credit crash the worse case scenario was -18% max drawdown with a 12 month recovery, that would actually be very good.

I may join that site and look at some of his ideas.
I used to follow him in early 2000’s way before he had this strategy and his site was free. At that time, he had an options strategy that ended up not doing very well at all.

Have you looked at any junk bond trading strategies? For me – very good risk/reward, low drawdown, low time in drawdown, low SD, low ulcer index, high sharpe, low stress, etc….

Your ETF Momentum Strategy for May 2017 has GEOMEAN of only 4 months, not 5 months – Apr 2017 is excluded.
Just to let you know, so that you can get it back on track for June starting tomorrow
